IN A BOLD and unprecedented move aimed at bringing governance closer to Ghanaians across the globe, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has commenced a special office rotation initiative, beginning with visits to Benin, Nigeria and Togo.

The initiative, which seeks to make the Foreign Minister more accessible to Ghanaians living abroad, is part of the Mahama administration’s commitment to open, transparent and hands-on governance.
So far, Hon. Ablakwa has spent two impactful days in Benin where he engaged extensively with the Ghanaian community.

His itinerary included interactions with Ghanaian students on French-Year-Abroad programmes, consultations with entrepreneurs, meetings with staff of the State Transport Company (STC) and a roundtable with the leadership of the Ghanaian community in Benin.
The Minister also undertook a detailed inspection of Ghana’s diplomatic properties in Benin, aimed at informing policy responses and interventions back in Accra.

Additionally, he offered private consultations at the Ghanaian embassy to allow citizens to discuss urgent and personal matters directly with him.
“The exclusive engagement with our mission staff has been absolutely beneficial. It will clearly lead to the right and most appropriate interventions upon my return,” Hon. Ablakwa noted.
He emphasized that the office rotation initiative will be a regular feature of his leadership, promising future visits to other African nations before extending the programme to other continents.

The Minister is now headed to Nigeria, where he will spend the next three days continuing his engagements with Ghanaian citizens and diplomatic staff.
This move has been widely praised as a refreshing and people-centered approach to foreign affairs, reaffirming the government’s pledge to remain accessible and responsive to the needs of its diaspora.
