DISAPPOINTED FORMER MINISTER OF FINANCE AND ECONOMIC PLANNING, MOHAMMED AMIN ADAMS.

THE OPPOSITION New Patriotic Party (NPP) is facing backlash for attempting to mislead Ghanaians about the 2025 budget, which has been widely praised for its bold initiatives to revive the economy.

Following the budget presentation by Finance and Economic Planning Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, the NPP minority in Parliament struggled to counter its solid framework.

With no major loopholes to exploit, they resorted to using the betting tax as a talking point to appear credible to the Ghanaian public.

A key figure in this effort was former Finance Minister and Karaga MP, Dr. Amin Adams, who claimed that the Nana Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration never collected betting tax from the youth. However, records from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) expose this claim as misleading.

In October 2023, the GRA confirmed that GHC15 million was generated from betting taxes in the first month of implementation. Additionally, in 2024, the NPP government collected a staggering GHC 1.2 billion from the same tax.

The revelation raises concerns over the NPP’s attempt to distort facts in a bid to discredit the budget, which many believe offers a strong path to economic recovery.

Ghanaians further questioned the opposition NPP over their continuous deceit, even in opposition where they are supposed to learn how to be credible for once.
