THE MEMBER of Parliament for La Dade-Kotopon and Deputy Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah has once again brought Christmas joy to hundreds of vulnerable residents in her constituency through her annual Christmas outreach programme.

The event, which has become a yearly tradition, recorded a significant improvement over previous editions. This year’s celebration saw increased attendance following the removal of participation restrictions, allowing more children, persons with disabilities (PWDs), the visually impaired, and the elderly to take part.

Held in a warm and cheerful atmosphere, the celebration was filled with music, laughter, bouncing castle for the children and engaging activities specially designed to make the elderly, the visually impaired, and PWDs feel happy, included and valued.

Participants were treated to delicious meals, lively entertainment and generous gifts. Children received bags of assorted goodies, while PWDs, the visually impaired, and the elderly were presented with special care packages to support them during the festive season.

Many beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude. Speaking at the event, Hon. Odoley Sowah explained that the programme was organised to show love and remind vulnerable groups that they remain an important part of the community.

“The Christmas bash is an annual programme, and we strive to improve it every year. We want our people to know that someone cares about them and wants them to enjoy Christmas like everyone else,” she said.

The MP also announced that her apprenticeship training programme for the youth will be organised again, following the registration of interested young people.

She further called on well-meaning and affluent individuals within the La Dade-Kotopon Municipality to emulate the spirit of Christ by extending love and support to vulnerable members of society during festive seasons, so they too can feel valued, cared for, and included in the joy of Christmas.

The initiative will provide skills training in areas such as hairdressing, sewing, manicure and pedicure, decoration, soap making, and other handcrafts, aimed at promoting self-employment and economic independence.

Hon. Sowah further reaffirmed her commitment to supporting persons with disabilities and the visually impaired, particularly in education. She highlighted the NDC government’s free tertiary education policy for persons with disabilities as a major step toward inclusion and empowerment.

She expressed appreciation to companies, hotels, institutions, and individuals whose support contributed to the success of the event. Beneficiaries praised the MP for her compassion and dedication to their wellbeing, with one participant describing the gesture as “a kind of love we have never experienced before.”

The Christmas celebration once again stood as a powerful symbol of compassion, community support, and responsive leadership, reaffirming Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah’s commitment to improving the lives of the people of La Dade-Kotopon.
