JONATHAN ALORMASOR, APOLITICAL YOUTH ACTIVIST.

Nat’l Tymes News Desk

A POLITICAL youth activist, Jonathan Alormasor has called for the arrest and prosecution of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for allegedly shielding illegal mining activities during his time in office.

The call follows renewed public interest in the ongoing illegal mining (galamsey) scandal involving Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

Mr. Alormasor argues that if Wontumi is now facing legal action, the former President must also be held accountable for publicly defending him without allowing proper investigations.

END OF CHAIRMAN WONTUMI.

According to Alormasor, Akufo-Addo’s direct denial of the allegations against Wontumi while serving as President suggests he may have protected wrongdoing, thereby making him complicit in the destruction of Ghana’s forests and water bodies.

“If a sitting President defends such acts without facts, he becomes part of the problem,” he stressed.

He is calling on President John Dramani Mahama’s government to uphold the rule of law by investigating Akufo-Addo once his constitutional immunity ends. He also appealed to the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, to act decisively.

Mr. Alormasor said Ghanaians expect accountability, adding that justice must not be selective.

“The law must work, regardless of status. That’s what Ghanaians voted for,” he emphasized.
