THE PRIVATE Newspaper and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) has marked World News Day, 2025 with a call for greater public and institutional support for Ghana’s media.
In a statement signed by its President, David Sitsope Tamakloe, PRINPAG acknowledged the critical role publishers play in upholding democracy, fighting misinformation, and defending free speech, despite ongoing challenges such as limited revenue and threats to press freedom.
“Without the work of publishers, our society risks disorder,” the statement said. “They are gatekeepers of information and protectors of public discourse.”
PRINPAG urged the public to celebrate the media and support its sustainability through advertising and other forms of investment.
The association also called on government, private institutions, and donors to invest in media development, particularly in areas like training and technology.

“As we mark this day, we recognise the need for improvement. Publishers must embrace criticism, uphold ethical standards, and adopt new technologies to build public trust,” the statement added.
The association ended by reaffirming its commitment to strengthening independent journalism and promoting a free, fair, and responsible media space in Ghana.
