
GHANA’S ACTING President and Vice-President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to a mutually beneficial partnership with China.
Speaking at a ceremony in Accra marking the 76th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and the 65th anniversary of Ghana–China diplomatic relations, she conveyed congratulations on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang highlighted the enduring values upon which Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and Chairman Mao Zedong founded the Ghana–China relationship. She emphasized that the shared history has laid the foundation for a true partnership and mutual respect.
The Vice-President noted the steady growth in trade between the two countries, with bilateral trade reaching $11.8 billion in 2024, a 7.1% increase from the previous year.
She expressed Ghana’s determination to translate this relationship into local development that empowers the youth, particularly through initiatives like the 24-Hour Economy Programme, focusing on creating jobs in energy, renewable power, and trade.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also commended ongoing cooperation in medical exchanges and educational collaborations, stressing the importance of building a win–win partnership that benefits all, especially the most vulnerable.
Looking ahead, she expressed hope that more Ghanaian investments will find opportunities in China, while Chinese enterprises continue to support Ghana’s development agenda.

She reiterated the commitment to working closely on projects such as the Aflao Market redevelopment, aimed at improving the working conditions of market women.
“May our friendship with China grow from strength to strength,” she concluded.
