PRESIDENT John Dramani Mahama will host a high-level global event at the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80) to officially launch “The Accra Reset: Reimagining Global Governance for Health and Development.”
The initiative aims to transform how the world tackles global challenges by proposing a new framework for international cooperation that responds to the realities of today’s world, especially beyond the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) era.
The event will bring together Heads of State, global business leaders, international organizations, civil society actors, and philanthropists from Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, and beyond.

Key Announcements
President Mahama is expected to announce the formation of a Global Presidential Council, made up of current and former world leaders. This council will provide strategic political leadership to advance “The Accra Reset” agenda.

A High-Level Advisory Panel will also be set up, involving global experts from the fields of health, finance, innovation, and development to shape bold new models of global cooperation.
Why It Matters
The launch comes at a critical time. A 2023 UN review showed that less than half of the 169 SDG targets are on track. Inequality, global health gaps, and economic instability continue to threaten global progress.

President Mahama’s “Accra Reset” challenges the world to move beyond business-as-usual. It calls for a fundamental rethinking of global development; focusing on equity, sustainability, and cooperation.
With 2030 fast approaching, President Mahama is urging the world to act, not just promise.
