FOLLOWING the August 2025 Africa Health Sovereignty Summit in Accra, the government has reaffirmed its commitment to building resilient health systems and partnerships across the continent.

A new operational framework is being proposed; one that focuses on strong coalitions, syndicates, and agile platforms capable of delivering real, measurable outcomes in the face of global uncertainties.
According to Felix Kwakye Ofosu (MP), Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, the health sector, being especially vulnerable to global shocks and overly dependent on aid, will be the first to undergo transformation.
The initiative aims to set the pace for systemic change across all development sectors through innovation and collaboration.
To this end, President Mahama is expected to announce the formation of a Global Presidential Council, made up of current and former world leaders. This council will provide strategic political leadership to advance “The Accra Reset” agenda.

A High-Level Advisory Panel will also be established, involving global experts from the fields of health, finance, innovation, and development to shape bold new models of global cooperation.
The launch comes at a critical time. A 2023 UN review showed that fewer than half of the 169 SDG targets are on track. Inequality, global health gaps, and economic instability continue to threaten global progress.
