GHANA’s new High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Ireland, Mrs. Sabah Zita Benson, has called on Ghanaians living abroad to actively support President John Dramani Mahama’s “Reset Ghana Agenda”, which aims to rebuild and transform the country’s economy.
During an informal engagement at Ghana House in London on her arrival on Saturday, September 20, 2025, Mrs. Benson met with Ghanaian community leaders including Queen Mothers, clergy, and Imams. The meeting, coordinated by Head of Chancery Mr. Mawutor Alifo, formed part of her early efforts to engage the diaspora as she officially assumes office.
In her address, Mrs. Benson emphasized that the Mahama-led administration values the Ghanaian diaspora not only for the remittances they send home but for their skills, expertise, and potential to invest in sectors that can create jobs for the youth.

“President Mahama has you in mind. Your contributions, financial and intellectual, are vital to Ghana’s transformation. The Reset Agenda is a collective mission, and you are central to its success,” she told the gathering.
She stressed that Ghana’s future must be driven by Ghanaians themselves and not left in the hands of foreign investors alone. “The time has come for us, the owners of Ghana, to lead in building the country we all desire,” she added.
Mrs. Benson described the warm reception she received from the diaspora as a positive sign that her vision to unite Ghanaians abroad for national development is achievable. She assured the community that her office will serve as a bridge between the diaspora and the government to promote investment and development partnerships.

“I want to encourage you to look homeward. Ghana is full of opportunities under the Reset Agenda. Your ideas, businesses, and projects are needed now more than ever,” she said.
She added by calling for unity across political and social lines, urging all Ghanaians to put the country first. “Development knows no party colour. The Ghana First Agenda that President Mahama is championing requires all hands on deck,” she noted.
Mrs. Benson’s remarks mark the beginning of an inclusive diplomatic approach aimed at mobilizing the diaspora as key players in Ghana’s national rebuilding efforts.

“I believe in open-door leadership,” she affirmed. “Everyone should feel welcome to share ideas and concerns to collectively advance our nation’s interests.”
Madam Sabah Zita Benson was warmly received at Heathrow Airport by Mr. David Perry, the UK’s Special Representative of the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, along with Mr. Mawutor Alifo, Head of Chancery at the Ghana High Commission in the UK.
