IN AN inspiring act of communal resilience, residents of Kedzi and Aveta in the Gamenu Electoral Area of South Tongu District in the Volta Region of Ghana joined forces on Thursday, July 24, 2025, to construct a makeshift walkway along their flood-prone access road.
Led by the Assembly Member for the area, Hon. Seyram Glah, the initiative aimed to provide temporary relief to commuters and farmers struggling to navigate the deteriorated route that connects Gamenu-Kedzi to Ada-Foah via the River Volta.

The road has long posed challenges to residents, particularly during the rainy season when it becomes nearly impassable. Farmers have faced significant difficulties transporting their produce, while traders and emergency services often find it difficult to access the area.
“We’ve waited for too long for support from the authorities, and nothing has been done. We’ve taken the initiative to make our road useable while we still call on the government for permanent solutions,” Hon. Seyram Glah said.

Residents lamented the delays in official intervention and the impact on their livelihoods and safety. They have appealed to the district assembly, NGOs, and private individuals for urgent support to complete the road.
This grassroots effort stands as a powerful example of community-driven development. It highlights the urgent need for infrastructure attention in rural communities and the strength of collective action in the face of adversity.
