THE GHANA Free Zones Authority (GFZA) and the Ghana Prison Service are set to work together on a new initiative to help inmates gain skills and rebuild their lives after prison.

On Monday, July 14, 2025, GFZA CEO Dr. Mary Awusi welcomed the Director General of the Prison Service, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, Esq. and her team to the GFZA Head Office.

The meeting focused on creating a strong partnership to support inmate rehabilitation through hands-on training and job opportunities.

Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie explained that the Prison Service aims to keep the public safe by helping inmates reform. She said their current programmes in farming and vocational skills are useful, but they need more support to reach more inmates and help them learn skills they can use after release.

Dr. Awusi said GFZA fully supports the idea and believes many Free Zone companies; especially in agriculture can offer real training and jobs to inmates when they leave prison. She also promised to work with investors under GFZA to support the Prison Service’s goals.

Both institutions agreed to build a clear plan to guide the partnership, focusing on job training, creating employment, and helping inmates fully reintegrate into society.

The Ghana Prison Service will also be featured in GFZA’s upcoming 30th Anniversary celebrations as part of its community support programmes.

This partnership marks a new beginning where business growth and second chances go hand in hand.
