A STORM is brewing at the Krowor Municipal Assembly as three Assembly Members have petitioned the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, demanding a full-scale investigation into the mysterious disappearance of over 3,000 streetlights delivered to the Assembly in 2024.

According to the petition, the streetlights meant to improve safety and visibility in Krowor’s communities were delivered to the municipality in October/November 2024 by the Ministry.
However, unlike other Assemblies in the Greater Accra Region that distributed their allocations transparently through the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), the Krowor Assembly allegedly has no trace of its consignment.
The petition, signed by Hon. Nii Bortey GbeJelor II, sub-chief of Nunqua-Brigade, known in private life as Hon. Lawrence Nii Bortey Borquaye, (Nii Larweh Electoral Area); Hon. Jeremiah Borketey Bortey (Baatsonaa Electoral Area), and Hon. Francis Ashie (Odai Ablaze Electoral Area), raises serious concerns over suspected misappropriation and mismanagement under the watch of the immediate past Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).

“We find this highly disturbing,” the Assembly Members noted, “especially in the face of persistent darkness and insecurity across many communities in our municipality.”
Adding to the suspicion, the petition questions the sudden appearance of a limited number of streetlights installed in selected electoral areas in April 2025. The Assembly Members are demanding clarity on the source of these lights and whether they are linked to the missing consignment.

The petitioners are also requesting that the current Coordinating Director disclose:
- The exact source and quantity of the newly installed lights;
- Whether these lights are from the 2024 batch;
- And why the transparent ECG-led distribution model was bypassed.
The case has been copied to several high-profile offices, including the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Akweley Ocloo; MP for Krowor, Hon. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey; the Krowor Municipal Director; and the National Investigations Bureau (NIB).
The petitioners insist that anyone found culpable – whether by negligence, misconduct or deliberate wrongdoing – must face the full force of the law.

“The taxpayers and residents of Krowor deserve nothing less than full accountability,” the petition concluded.
The public now awaits the response of the Local Government Ministry, as pressure mounts for answers on the fate of the vanished streetlights.
