THE NATIONAL Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has impounded a backhoe belonging to the Obuasi West Municipal Assembly for unauthorized use, signaling a firm stance against the misuse of government equipment.
The incident occurred on the Obuasi-Kumasi highway, where the backhoe was found with a broken hydraulic valve. Upon interrogation, the machine’s operator claimed he was acting under instructions from an assembly engineer.
Unsatisfied with the explanation, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye involved the Obuasi police, leading to the operator’s arrest and the equipment’s seizure for further investigation.
Nii Lantey iterated that any use of DRIP machinery without proper authorization from the district roads management team and coordinator would held responsible and made to bear the servicing and maintenance costs.

He urged assemblies to await the formal training of operators before deploying equipment; and quickly hinted that training sessions would commence soon in all regional capitals.
This action underscores the DRIP Secretariat’s commitment to ensuring that government-provided equipment is used appropriately and maintained properly to serve the intended purpose of improving road infrastructure across Ghana.
