THE MEMBER of Parliament for South Tongu, Hon. Maxwell Kwame Lukutor, joined the vibrant community of Sokpoe to celebrate the 39th edition of the Tortsogbe-Za festival – a colorful showcase of culture, unity and local pride.
The event drew several dignitaries, including the District Chief Executive, Hon. Victoria Dzeklo, and the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie.

Inspiring the Next Generation
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Lukutor placed strong emphasis on youth mentorship, encouraging the younger generation to seek guidance from elders and community leaders. He highlighted ongoing efforts to elevate Tortsogbe-Za into a major tourism attraction, citing positive discussions held with the Tourism Minister.
Elevating Tortsogbe-Za on the National Stage
Hon. Gomashie lauded the festival’s remarkable evolution over nearly four decades, expressing a bold vision to make Tortsogbe-Za the second most celebrated festival in Ghana.

She outlined plans to promote Sokpoe’s iconic river crossing as a distinctive tourism product, while calling on the Volta River Authority to dredge rivers impacted by dam spillage to enhance accessibility.
United in Support
Demonstrating a strong spirit of collaboration, the Regional Minister, the District Chief Executive, the Tourism Minister, and Hon. Lukutor made a joint donation of GHS 10,000 to support this year’s festivities.
The Tortsogbe-Za festival continues to stand as a beacon of cultural heritage, bringing the community together while drawing attention to South Tongu’s rich traditions and tourism potential.
