THE PARLIAMENTARY Caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a firm statement distancing itself from any interference in the ongoing contractual matters between the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and sanitation firm Zoomlion Ghana Limited.

In a press release signed by Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, the NDC clarified that it has not sanctioned the Sanitation Committee of Parliament – or any of its members – to meddle in the YEA’s decision regarding the sanitation module contract with Zoomlion.

Hon. Ayariga stated that contrary to recent media reports, the Chairman of the Sanitation Committee has confirmed that neither he nor any member of the Committee has made any moves to influence the YEA’s decisions. “Any comments by individuals that appear to support Zoomlion’s contract with the YEA are personal opinions and should not be seen as representing Parliament or the Committee,” he emphasized.

The statement also cautioned Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) against succumbing to pressure or coercion into entering sanitation contracts with any specific company.

Citing a directive from President John Dramani Mahama during the last parliamentary session, Ayariga reminded Assemblies that 80% of the Common Fund is now disbursed directly to them, granting them autonomy to set their own development agendas.

The NDC Caucus called on stakeholders to respect institutional independence and ensure transparency in all public sanitation engagements.
