THE MEDIA Analyst Group of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has thrown its weight behind a petition calling for the removal of Ghana’s Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Gertrude Esaaba Torkornoo, citing concerns over alleged judicial bias and misconduct.
In a statement issued in Accra, the group accused the Chief Justice of eroding public confidence in the judiciary through her handling of key political and constitutional matters.
According to the group, her actions have “compromised the integrity of the judiciary” and pose a direct threat to Ghana’s democratic foundations.
“We are fully behind the call for her removal,”the statement said. “The perception of partiality and inconsistency in her rulings cannot be ignored any longer.”
Group organizer, Mr. Simon Yaw Awadzi, invoked Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution, outlining the procedure for removing a sitting Chief Justice.
The group is urging the President and the Council of State to facilitate a fair, thorough and transparent inquiry into the allegations.
The Media Analysts also issued a rallying cry to citizens, urging them to support what they call an essential step toward restoring public trust in the judiciary.
“We cannot remain silent while the courts are used to advance narrow political interests. Ghana deserves better,” they emphasized.
Neither Chief Justice Torkornoo nor the Judicial Service has yet responded to the accusations. However, legal experts anticipate heated public debate in the days ahead.
