HON. DR AGNES. Naa Momo Lartey, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, has thrown her full support behind the newly launched ‘One Million Coders’ programme, a transformative initiative aimed at empowering Ghanaian youth with critical digital skills.
The programme, officially launched by H.E. President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday, 16th April 2025, is spearheaded by the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation. It seeks to equip young people across Ghana with skills in coding, web design, cybersecurity and other digital competencies, boosting their employability in an increasingly digital world.

Speaking to the media after the event, Dr. Lartey emphasized the programme’s alignment with her Ministry’s mission to promote digital inclusion, especially among women and marginalized communities.
“Empowering the youth with digital skills is vital for closing the gender gap and ensuring inclusive development,” she said, stressing the importance of leaving no one behind in Ghana’s digital transformation journey.

In addition to her support for the coding initiative, Dr. Lartey announced the upcoming launch of the Free Sanitary Pad Initiative, set for 24th April 2025 in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
The new programme aims to address menstrual hygiene management challenges faced by schoolgirls, reduce absenteeism and enhance their overall academic performance and well-being.

The dual announcements signal the Ministry’s continued dedication to fostering equity, empowerment and opportunity for all Ghanaian youth.
