FORMER Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adams has come under fire for falsely claiming that the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration never implemented or collected betting taxes in Ghana.
His statement, aimed at discrediting the 2025 budget presented by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, has been debunked by records from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
The New Patriotic Party (NPP), struggling to maintain political relevance, has been accused of deliberately distorting facts to undermine the new budget, which has abeen widely described as a “budget of hope” by civil society organizations, professionals, business leaders, trade unions and individuals. However, despite this broad endorsement, some NPP members continue to dismiss the budget and describe it as empty, further fueling public debate.
The NPP’s attempt to downplay the government’s fiscal strategy has only backfired, with evidence now proving that the previous administration indeed imposed and collected betting taxes. This revelation raises further questions about the credibility of their criticisms.
