IN A SIGNIFICANT effort to restore confidence in Ghana’s financial sector, President John Dramani Mahama has officially sworn in Dr. Johnson Pandit Kwesi Asiama as the new Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) and Dr. Zakari Mumuni as First Deputy Governor.

During the ceremony on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, President Mahama stressed the importance of professionalism, integrity and experience in guiding the country’s economic policies.

R – L: DR. JOHNSON PANDIT KWESI ASIAMA, GOVERNOR AND DR ZAKARI MUMUNI, FIRST DEPUTY GOVERNOR, BANK OF GHANA.

He underscored the vital role the Central Bank must play in stabilizing the currency, controlling inflation and protecting the financial sector.

“The measure of your patriotism in this important duty of economic governance lies in learning from past mistakes,” Mahama stated, encouraging the new leadership to focus on policies that balance financial stability with their impact on people.

These appointments come at a time of economic uncertainty, with Mahama reiterating his commitment to ensuring the Central Bank operates independently, free from political interference.
