PRESIDENT JOHN Dramani Mahama has appointed two prominent economists, Dr. Johnson Pandit Kwesi Asiama and Dr. Zakari Mumuni, as Governor and First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, respectively, in a strategic effort to stabilize the nation’s financial sector.
During the swearing-in ceremony on February 25, 2025, Mahama highlighted that their appointments reflect his administration’s dedication to professionalism, integrity and financial expertise.
He urged the new leadership to implement policies that not only ensure monetary stability but also take into account the human impact of economic decisions.
“With Dr. Asiama and Dr. Mumuni leading the way, I am confident we can rebuild trust, restore stability and guide our economy toward sustained growth,” Mahama remarked.

These appointments come at a critical juncture as Ghana grapples with economic challenges, including inflation and currency instability.
Mr. Mahama reassured Ghanaians that under this new leadership, the Central Bank would function independently, free from political interference and focused on long-term economic resilience.
