THE COLLATION process for the Dome Kwabenya and Okaikoi Central constituencies has sparked intense tension, leading to a dramatic standoff at the regional electoral collation center at Ridge in Accra.

Disputes over missing NPP pink sheets reportedly from Okaikoi Central polling stations necessitated the transfer of collation to the regional center. This decision stirred emotions among NDC supporters, who gathered en masse at the center, demanding fairness in the process.
According to eyewitness accounts, some NDC supporters arrived armed, citing self-defense concerns. They alleged that NPP’s Hawa Koomson had previously deployed armed groups to intimidate and harm NDC members – prompting them to take precautionary measures.
The heavy police presence at the center sought to maintain order and disarm the armed individuals. However, attempts to confiscate the weapons led to a confrontation, with some NDC members swiftly retrieving the guns before police could seize them.

Sources indicate that tensions flared further due to dissatisfaction among some police officers with the regional police commander’s approach to the incident.
Prominent NDC leaders, including regional executives, national figures, and newly elected MPs, have rallied at Ridge in solidarity with Baba Sadiq, the party’s parliamentary candidate for Okaikoi Central.

The situation remains tense, with calls for calm and transparency in resolving the collation issues to avoid further escalation.
