ASHANTI REGION BASED Political Activist, Henry Osei-Akoto has described the “Planting for Food and Jobs” policy introduced by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) as a scam.

According to him, the NPP budgeted about $3 billion for the Planting for food and jobs flagship policy but food stuffs are extremely expensive because Ghana imports hugely these food stuffs for consumption.
This was never the case under President John Dramani Mahama. Ghanaians were deceived to try Nana Akufo-Addo and they ended up in serious trials; everybody is suffering.

He quizzed, what does it take to produce maize, millet, plantain, cassava, cocoyam etc. to feed the country. Mr Osei-Akoto was quick to add that the NPP introduced the programme only to enrich themselves.
He pointed out that since the policy was introduced the government has rather been importing food staffs such as maize, millet, plantain, cassava etc from Burkina Faso and Cote D’ivoire in huge tons than ever before.

Speaking on one of the Accra based television stations, CTV, on a show dubbed “GHANA WE DEY”, he opined that the NPP government led by Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamoudu Bawumia used the catch phrase “planting for food and job” to scam Ghanaians.
Henry Osei-Akoto charged the media to also make it their responsibility to expose the government on this and many other scammed deals. Because everyone is a victim of the scam and would pay tax to service the $3 billion loan put into this scammed programme.

It was also revealed on the show that another money amounting to about $400 million was used for rearing birds and other farm animals which forms part of the planting for food and jobs policy.
Despite all these huge moneys pushed into the programme, price of a bag of maize or millet is so high. This resulted in expensive staple foods like kenky, including vegetables and fruits etc, he lamented.
The Ashanti Region Political Activist further cited John Boadu, former NPP General Secretary for insulting the intelligence of Ghanaians for saying that, the Planting for food and jobs policy would attract foreigners to come in to also get some of the jobs to do. This, Mr. Osei-Akoto therefore, said forms part of the NPP’s deceitful strategy to lure Ghanaians into voting for them.

He further pointed out that the Nana Akufo-Addo, Dr. Bawumia led NPP administration took power from the performing NDC and John Dramani Mahama only to enrich themselves at the expense of the citizenry.
