THE TREASURY Department at the Greater Accra Regional NDC has organised a capacity building workshop for its treasurers across the 34 constituencies in the region.
The workshop took the participants through the areas of Fundraising, Models, Tools and Techniques to help raise funds in their various constituencies to strengthen the financial background of the party at that level.

In a welcome address by the regional Treasurer, Alhaji Mohammed Nogah, supported by his able deputy Treasurer, Kennedy Hedoe, indicated that the capacity building workshop was necessary.
He said the constituency treasurers needed to know their job description in order not to allow other position holders or executives to bully them around anytime funds are made available for party activities in the constituency.

In an interview with the deputy regional treasurer who moderated the workshop alongside his boss, Mr. Norga; Mr. Hedoe explained that there is always confusion especially amongst the Organisers, Secretaries and the treasurers in most of the 34 constituencies.
Mr. Hedoe added that every treasurer who is also the finance officer of the Constituency holds the treasury of the Constituency. These include any item such as vehicles of all kind, Internally Generated Funds (IGF), and funds that belong to the Constituency.
He hinted that it was not proper for other executives at the Constituency to be fighting the Treasurer over funds that need to be used judiciously and accounted for.
The resource persons took the participants through what their job as treasurer is; how to write basic financial report and how to prepare petty cash book.

The participants were guided through how to keep proper records of all kinds of incomes and expenditure of the Constituency by Samuel Ayittey Aryee, former deputy controller and accountant general. This is to help them in case of the demand for accountability.
Deputy National Treasurer from the NDC Headquarters, Thomas Ayisi Kumah took the participants through how to raise funds for day-to-day running of the administration at the Constituency level and party activities amongst others without waiting for funds from region headquarters.
A number of avenues to raise funds were identified; these include the meagre monthly dues, fundraising dinners amongst others.

He also charged them to take proper inventory of every property belonging to the party at the constituency level; in case of colleague executives are trying to prevent them.
Free health screening was also organised to help the participants to look fit whilst they campaign day and night to canvass for more votes for the NDC in the upcoming 2024 general elections in December.
