The National Identification Authority, NIA is now charging between Ghc150 and Ghc200 before it register Ghanaians for the Ghana/Ecowas Identification Card.
Already, the NIA is charging Ghc250 as premium for instant Ghana Card through MoMo or into a CAL BANK account and recept will be issued on applicant’s phone; directive was that soon everyone will be expected to pay with MoMo so that the person would be forced to pay the E-levy at all cost.
In addition, tribalism was also a yardstick to determine who qualifies for the Card. It appears NIA carefully employed NPP faithful as workers to offer support to Prof. Ken Attafuah, party man who was appointed as head of NIA to thoroughly probe anyone/applicant bearing a Volterian or Northern name.
The flawless information reaching Nationaltymes.com indicates that Ghana Card Registration officers from the National Head Office at Shiashe in Accra are charging between Ghc150 and Ghc200 before registering people at Ablorman and other communities.
According to one Thomas Obroni, there were long queues at these registration centres including Ablorman, a typical Ga community and other areas where people came out in their numbers to register the Ghana Card.
He argued that the National Identification Authority, NIA are taking advantage of the inhumane situation the NPP government created to extort money from the already struggling poor Ghanaians before they register them for the Card.
He indicated that what disturbs him most was the manner in which the NIA officials subject the people from certain ethnic setups, ie. Northerners and Voltarians, in their bid to either suppress or discourage them from getting the ID Cards.
Mr. Abroni noted that those who sail through the registration without any difficulties as usual are those bearing the Akan names; and are migrating in recent times to live within these typical Ga communities in the Ga West Constituency.
He hinted that some Gas in few cases, are registered when they are ready to pay Ghc150 or Ghc 200. “In Ablorman, some are asked to speak a few lines of the Akan language instead, before their bio-data are captured for the Ghana Card”, Mr. Abroni alleged.
The Nationaltymes.com Reporter overheard a pregnant woman in the company of 3 others and were discussing what they went through, and she (pregnant) had to plead and pay the only Ghc170 on her for herself and her sister before they were registered for their cards.
Mr. Abroni further suspected the ruling NPP is indirectly ditacting the affairs of the NIA in opposition dominated constituencies where the NPP have no grip of, and their agenda is to ensure they messup the area with tribalism in their favour without thinking of the consequences.
This alleged agenda was in anticipation of the plan that another constituency was going to be created from Ga West Constituency, so that the governing NPP captures these constituencies going into elections 204.
Mr. Abroni further accused the NPP MP for Ga West Constituency, Akwesi Owusu Afrifa-Mensah and the MCE for the Municipality, Clement Wilkinson for master-minding the discrimination of the people who came out to register for the Ghana Card in their respective communities within the Municipality.
Thomas Abroni also hinted this portal that he identified one Kwame Adom from NIA, Shashe in the company of some party members of the ruling NPP at Ablorman working with a NISSAN HARDBODY Pickup belonging to NIA with registration number GV – 141 – 18 and touring the registration centres with vehicle to ensure their planned agenda is on course.
He also accused some media personel including Ode Ahenkan of Peace FM for not helping to condemn the tribal bigotry and the extortion by the NIA officials. Angry Mr Abroni described these actions against the people of Ablorman and its environs as irresponsible.
