A Political Activist based in the United States of America, USA, Dr. Lawrence Appiah has appealed to Hon. Member of Parliament, MP for North Tongu not to trust the current crop Justices of the Supreme Court under President Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo.

The Legislator for the people of North Tongu in the Volta Region, Hon Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwah was reported in the media in Accra to have expressed confidence that the Supreme Court would rule in an injunction filed to stop the government from charging E-levy until the determination of the substantive case.
But the Supreme Court as usual threw out the injunction just as all the cases involving the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP government.

Prior to the injunction, Ghanaians have already predicted that there was no way these current crop of Supreme Court Justices appointed by President Akufo-Addo would rule in favour of any plaintiff against the NPP administration no matter how favourable the case maybe, following all the major rulings involving this same government or any institution which the outcome might not favour the government.
Based on this, the Ghanaian based USA Political Activist who doubles as the founder of the Diasporan Progressive Movement, DPM, Dr. Appiah asked the MP to stop raising the hopes of Ghanaians that these Supreme Court Justices, who rule virtually all cases in favour of the ruling NPP government led Nana Akufo-Addo, that they would upheld the injunction against his government.

In a statement sent to Nationaltymes.com, unhappy Dr. Appiah indicated that he heard Hon Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwah one morning on Okay FM saying he is confident that the Supreme Court will rule in their favour on the main issue of the E-Levy. He said the MP made the same statement on Asempa FM the day the Supreme Court ruled 7-0 on the injunction issue.
Dr. Appiah posited that, “I love Hon. Ablakwah and admire the work he is doing in Parliament on behalf of the people of Ghana, but I will beg him to credit us with some intelligence and stop playing with our emotions when it comes to the issue of the E-levy and the Supreme Court”.
Adding he explained that, “the Supreme Court scored 7-0 to the issue of injunction in favour governing NPP and you are telling yourself that you will win the main issue?”, “……the Supreme Court asked the GRA to keep records of all transactions so that if it gets to refunds, they can do the refunds accordingly”, he stated as per the ruling.

“The question is who keeps such appropriate records in Ghana? Record keeping of the E-levy transactions is complex for refunds to be issued to people”, Dr. Lawrence Appiah argued.
The US based Political Activist further argued that, the Supreme Court has not given a date for the main case to be heard but I can say that most people don’t even remember where they did their transactions. “…..assuming the main case is heard in 6 months to 12 months, who is going for any refunds, and who is going to issue any refunds?”, he quizzed.
Dr. Appiah added that doesn’t Hon. Ablakwah know that under this NPP government, if the Supreme Court gets to know how much has been collected on the E-levy, that alone can influence it’s decision to dismiss the case?

The Supreme Court knew the government was going to start the implementation of E-levy on May 1 but decided to hear the injunction case on May 4; didn’t that occur to Hon. Ablakwah that the injunction case was going to be dismissed?, angry Dr. Appiah quizzed.
“…..if there was a serious Supreme Court in Ghana, they would have heard the injunction case before May 1, 2022. We should be smart on certain things and embrace the obvious”, US based Ghanaian PoliticalActivist, Dr. LawrenceAppiah.
“We have election 2024 to win; Mahama Reba”, he emphasized.
