THE Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) will begin mandatory medical screening for prospective 2027 Hajj pilgrims in Bawku on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

According to a press release issued by the PAOG Communications Directorate on October 19, the screening will take place at the Quality Medical Centre in Bawku on Tuesday, followed by another session at the Bawku Presby Hospital on Friday, October 23.
The exercise is being conducted in line with medical requirements set by the Saudi Ministry of Health for all prospective Hajj pilgrims.
The statement, signed by the PAOG Chairman, Alhaji Abdul-Rauf Tanko Ibrahim, on behalf of the Board, expressed appreciation to accredited Hajj agents, medical professionals and prospective pilgrims for their cooperation and support towards ensuring a smooth screening exercise.
The nationwide exercise began in Tamale on October 3, continued in Kumasi on October 10 and moved to Accra on October 15, before reaching Bawku.
The PAOG Chairman urged prospective pilgrims to provide complete, accurate and truthful information about their medical history, existing health conditions, medications and lifestyle.
He explained that the information would help the medical team assess their health, identify possible risks and recommend the necessary treatment or other interventions to protect their health and well-being throughout the pilgrimage.
The Office assured prospective pilgrims that all medical information provided would be treated with strict confidentiality and handled in accordance with applicable requirements for protecting personal health information.

The PAOG further indicated that prospective pilgrims who fail to meet the medical requirements during their initial assessment may be considered for re-evaluation where medically appropriate, following further assessment and treatment.
However, it stressed that any opportunity for re-evaluation would depend on the nature and severity of the health condition, the outcome of subsequent medical assessments and compliance with the applicable Hajj medical requirements.
The Office added that final clearance would be based on the assessment of the authorised medical team.
Prospective pilgrims and other stakeholders in Bawku and its surrounding communities, particularly in the Upper East Region, have been urged to take note of the scheduled dates and participate in the exercise.
