THE GREATER Accra Regional House of Chiefs is being urged to intervene in concerns over the treatment of indigenous GaDangme-owned businesses, following an open letter by a concerned citizen calling for fairness and transparency in dealings affecting local enterprises.

In the letter dated April 30, 2026, Nii Ayitey Armah appealed to the chiefs to take a more active role in addressing what he described as growing unease among indigenes about their participation in the region’s economy.

Central to his concerns is the situation involving the McDan Group, owned by Daniel McKorley. He cited the company’s role in national development, particularly through its aviation arm, which contributed to the refurbishment of Terminal 1 at the Kotoka International Airport.

The letter, however, noted that the company has faced a series of operational challenges since 2021, including shutdowns by the Ghana Airports Company Limited over alleged indebtedness. The writer questioned the handling of the matter, arguing that such disputes should be resolved through established legal and administrative processes rather than actions perceived as abrupt.

He also raised concern over the reported termination of the company’s contract in early 2026, warning that such developments could affect investor confidence and create uncertainty within the business environment.

Beyond this case, the letter highlighted wider issues regarding indigenous participation in the local economy, including concerns about access to and control of resources such as the Songor salt project. According to the Nii Ayitey Armah, there is a growing perception that opportunities for indigenes are declining.

To this, he called on the House of Chiefs to engage relevant state institutions, seek clarity on the issues, and advocate for fairness, transparency, and due process. He further urged the chiefs to appeal to the President to intervene where necessary to safeguard local businesses and strengthen public confidence in state institutions.

The letter emphasised the importance of traditional leadership in protecting the interests of the people, noting that timely engagement on such matters would help promote trust, inclusion, and national unity.
