THE GOVERNMENT of Ghana, under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, has committed to major road construction projects in the Amenfi Central Constituency of the Western Region.

The Ministry of Roads and Highways has announced the inclusion of several critical road networks in the government’s upcoming infrastructure agenda.

According to Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the projects will address decades-old challenges with poor road infrastructure that have hindered mobility, trade, and development across the constituency.

Key roads prioritized include:

– Wassa Asankragwa–Agona Amenfi–Sefwi Bekwai: A 53-kilometer stretch to be surfaced with bitumen to ensure smoother and more durable transportation.
– Akyekyere–Bonuama–Kwaaman: A 17.4-kilometer feeder road slated for full upgrading.
– Anyinabrem–Bonuama: A 19.3-kilometer feeder road also earmarked for upgrading.
– Bawdie–Asankragwa: A critical 60-kilometer stretch scheduled for improvement.

Speaking to Lord FM News, Hon. Cudjoe expressed optimism about the transformative impact of the projects, noting that they would boost economic activity, improve market access for farmers, and enhance commuter safety.

“This is a major step forward. Our people have suffered for far too long due to bad roads. Thanks to President Mahama’s ‘Resetting Agenda’ policy, infrastructure in Amenfi Central is finally getting the attention it deserves,” she stated.

The projects are part of the NDC government’s broader $10 billion “Big Push” Infrastructure Agenda, which seeks to overhaul Ghana’s connectivity through roads, bridges, and key national infrastructure.

Beyond infrastructure, Hon. Cudjoe also revealed her educational support initiatives. She has supported over 500 tertiary students in the constituency with data bundles and is compiling a list for GETFund scholarship applications, including opportunities for study abroad.

These combined efforts, she noted, reflect her dedication to both physical development and human capital investment in Amenfi Central.

The announcement has been welcomed with enthusiasm by residents, many of whom have long demanded action on the poor road network, sometimes threatening election boycotts.

With implementation now on the horizon, hopes are high for safer travel, improved access to markets, and a boost in local development.
