ACCUSATIONS are mounting against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its Minority in Parliament over their alleged role in the ongoing nationwide strike action by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA).

Sources claim that the strike is not merely a labour issue, but a politically motivated agenda to discredit and destabilize the Mahama-led administration.

A highly placed medical professional, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that the strike may have been orchestrated behind the scenes by key opposition figures, including the Minority Members in Parliament.

The source alleged that the action was deliberately timed and politically charged, aimed at creating nationwide unrest and putting undue pressure on the government.

These claims come in the wake of a press conference held by Minority Members of Parliament, during which they sharply criticized the government’s handling of the ongoing strike.

Speaking to journalists, the Minority accused the Mahama administration of showing “bad faith” in addressing the concerns of striking nurses and midwives. They insisted that the government had failed to demonstrate genuine commitment to resolving the impasse, choosing instead to downplay the gravity of the situation.

“The Mahama government is clearly not treating the legitimate concerns of health workers with the urgency and sincerity they deserve,” said a spokesperson for the Minority. “This lack of action is pushing the healthcare system into a dangerous zone and we will not remain silent.”

Analysts say the strong support shown by the Minority for the striking health workers raises questions about the political undercurrents driving the crisis.

While the GRNMA has cited poor working conditions, delayed allowances and inadequate logistics as reasons for their action, critics argue that the situation is being manipulated for political gain.

MINORITY IN PARLIAMENT, AFENYO-MARKIN

With hospitals across the country scaling down operations and patients left stranded, pressure is mounting on the government to act swiftly. However, the emerging political accusations threaten to shift focus from the core demands of the healthcare professionals to a deeper partisan clash.
