THE 2025 AFRICA Land Forces (Security) Summit officially commenced yesterday at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra, bringing together military leaders from across the globe to address pressing security challenges facing the continent.

Speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, Ghana’s Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, opened the high-level summit just hours after the ceremonial Change of Guard at Jubilee House.

The summit has drawn participation from 50 nations, including 40 African countries, highlighting a strong commitment to regional and international collaboration in security.

With a focus on modern threats such as cyberspace vulnerabilities, violent extremism and terrorism, the summit emphasizes the importance of information sharing, counter-intelligence, and coordinated counter-terrorism efforts. These strategies, Dr. Boamah noted, are crucial for enhancing global peace, operational efficiency and the defence capabilities of armed forces worldwide.

The event was graced by the United States Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Virginia Evelyn Palmer, who delivered remarks on behalf of the U.S. Government, reaffirming America’s support for Africa’s security agenda.

Among the distinguished attendees were members of the Diplomatic Corps, the Chief of Defence Staff Major General William Agyapong, Ghanaian Service Chiefs, Commanding Generals, senior officers and personnel of the Southern European Task Force – Africa (SETAF-AF), as well as military representatives from Africa, the United States, and Europe.

Stakeholders from industry and academia also participated, underlining the summit’s cross-sectoral significance.

The Africa Land Forces Summit continues this week with in-depth discussions aimed at shaping a more secure and resilient future for the continent.
