GABRIEL OLUWASEGUN OLANREWAJU.

The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has officially confirmed the tragic death of Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju, who passed away after collapsing during a professional bout in Accra.

In a press release issued by the GBA, the authority stated that the fatal incident occurred during an international light heavyweight contest at the Imax Boxing Promotions event, part of the ongoing Bel 7-Star Energy Drink Professional Boxing League. Oluwasegun, who had been in control of the fight against his Ghanaian opponent Jon Mbanugu, suffered an unexpected collapse in the third round.

According to eyewitnesses, the Nigerian fighter showed signs of dominance in the first two rounds. However, towards the end of the third round (2 minutes 46 seconds in), he suddenly leaned against the ropes without resistance. Referees and medical personnel swiftly intervened and rushed him to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The GBA, in its statement, extended its deepest condolences to the family, friends and fans of Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju. The authority emphasized its commitment to the safety and well-being of boxers and assured that further investigations into the incident would be conducted.

The boxing community in Ghana and Nigeria is mourning the loss of a talented athlete, as the sports world comes to terms with this heartbreaking loss.
